Who is Johnny Muñoz

Johnny Muñoz Jr. started training the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) under his Father John Muñoz before he could even walk.

When Johnny first began training BJJ, it wasn't his favorite thing to do. Johnny's parents John & Claudia never pushed their son to compete in competitions, but made him train a minimum twice a week to keep him physically active and be able to defend himself if needed. After realizing he couldn't get out of training BJJ, Johnny would learn to pay the price and get through his twice a week training.

After seeing Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter Quinton "Rampage" Jackson on tv slamming people, Johnny took a strong passion in MMA and wanted to do the same as Rampage. Since you must be an adult to legally fight, Johnny's parents told him he must develop his skills in BJJ first before pursuing a fighting career as an adult. Johnny would seek his parents approval to enter his first competition which he won in dominating fashion at the age of 12. From there on Johnny would continue to compete in BJJ into adulthood winning 8 world titles along the way as well as receiving his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt at the age of 20.

A year after receiving his black belt, Johnny made his much awaited MMA debut winning via submission in the first round. Johnny fought for the King of the Cage (KOTC) organization, winning all 13 of his fights there and capturing the KOTC Bantamweight Championship. Johnny now fights for the UFC which is the pinnacle of the sport and his goal is to become the best MMA fighter in the world. Outside of fighting, Johnny holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Public Health from Cal State University San Bernardino. Johnny is also an instructor to children and adults at the C-Quence BJJ/MMA headquarters run by his parents in Norco, California and is always looking to give back to the community through what martial arts has taught him.

Johnny thanks his parents for never letting him quit his training as a child and cites them for all his success in fighting and in his academic career.
